Backcountry Helmet

I really am seriously thinking about a helmet. I need a helmet I can wear skiing uphill, then downhill through trees. Well actually in the spaces between the tree ;) !
I have no intention of wearing a helmet riding lifts. So I am wondering if anyone is wearing a helmet for similar uses.
Thank you

I sometimes do. It’s the Salomon MTN lab helmet. Lighter than most ski helmets. It’s dual rated for skiing and climbing (and I also use it for paragliding). It’s a real gem when out winter mountaineering and comfy and light. Works well when I’m at all worried about objective hazard.

I do not, but I have been out with a meetup group a few times this winter and a few people in that group do wear helmets. I didn’t notice what kind of helmets they were wearing. It makes some sense. I would NEVER go mountain biking, even on mellow, rolling trails, without a helmet. So why am I wilingl to XCD ski without one.

Report back which one you pick and how it works for you.

I've been pretty happy with this G3 helmet:

Great ventilation and super light compared to my old brain bucket.

I don’t wear helmets when skiing on lower and rolling terrain. Right now here in the European alps there is not very much snow. But: It would be a good idea to wear a helmet. It’s more of a tradition, I think, that people (me too!) don’t wear helmets on XC skis.
Going into steeper terrain and higher elevation, I always wear a helmet for the descents. On the uphills I stow it in my backpack. It would be too warm and sweaty. I use very light helmets, and so do the people I’m skiing with. I wear a climbing helmet, so no snow finds its way onto my head. I can wear a beanie as a first layer if it’s cold.
A MTB helmet would make sense on rolling terrain so moisture can get away from your head.

I'm doing the same. I have a Smith with lots of vents. Regardless of what kind you get, make sure it has a lot of vents that you can close if you want. MIPS fitting is also nice. Both of the options I've mentioned drive up the cost.

I don't wear a helmet when skiing, or intending to ski, anything groomed. Occasionally I wind up in trees without a helmet. Not quite like up the creek without a paddle.

They let you ski lifts without a helmet? I haven't been to a resort in long time that'll let you ski without a helmet!

I will wear a helmet on my trip to Norway in February, for the descents only. I just ordered the Petzl Meteour (about 70 EUR) a combined climbing/ski-touring helmet (240 grams- about 9oz). I got an early Christmas present this year in the form of an ischemic stroke on 2 December and I have to take blood thinners for the rest of my life..so not good idea to bounce the noggin off of trees anymore.

Dirt jumper helmets with occipital and temporal lobe protection have great ventilation even blend in at the resort!

I ski with a black diamond Vapor helmet. Light and easy to stash in my pack.
