Twin Tip vs Regular Skis

Hello fellow telemark skiers, I was just curious what the difference is between twin tip vs regular skis for tele? I've been snowboarding and recently switched over to tele. I am tempted to use my twin tip but not sure if it's good for a beginner or not. Thoughts? Thank you in advance!

Welcome to this crazy place Sports!

The main difference is the coolness. Depending on how old you are, twin tips are either really cool or totally uncool.

Seriously, most of the time, twin tips skis are softer skis in general. Which means they could feel like they are easier to turn, they will 'forgive' more than stiffer skis. But on the other hand, depending on the model, they might not have a lot of sidecut...

It all depends on how you envision your future as a telemark skier... Will you spend most of your time in the park or on the front side...?

Thanks LoveJohnny for responding to my question.. I'm probably going to stay away from the park side of it and just stick to the main runs or someday ride in fresh pow. What kind of sidecut do you suggest? Thanks again!

On the rare occasion when you step on the other ski you can't pull it out from under with twin tips. This happens to me usually as I pull into the liift line and then crash. Needless to say I love my flat tailed skis, which will pull out from under, and no crashes in front of the crowd.

Any time you want to have a carving comp I'm ready. Seriously something about rolling into the lift line and a lazy last turn or jump turns in really bad bumps and that ski just doesn't pull out, but with a flat tail no issues, no problems.

I think Bill is probably a great guy and a great skier, I just think your use of those KTB monikers is vapid and fatuous.
