Fischer Factory in jeopardy

I spoke to people at Fischer in Austria today, their factory in Mukachevo Ukraine is in grave danger, the bombing/fighting is rapidly approaching it and many of the largely Hungarian speaking Ukranians in that region have already fled to Hungary and Slovakia. The people at Fischer are worried about their 3,000 employees there y and not about skis.

Good on Fischer for having their priorities right, first of all. You also, of course.
Thank goodness they're on the west side of the country, at least. Hoping all the reports of a failing Russian offensive are true. Not to get political, but hoping somebody with enough power in Russia (ideally, the people!) puts an end to this. Russia's already lost, even if it 'wins' now.

True, you share a border with a malignant thug.

After reading tons of threads, I concluded one thing I love about this forum is the lack of politics and fighting (with the exception of that one thread about the Norwegian poster skiing shirtless in red Baywatch shorts). Hopefully it stays that way.

This is far beyond "politics"

Call it what you will, it ruins a forum about skiing.

Hello
@mca80.
I would like to offer a different (not right, just different) point of view.
I wouldn’t bring this up, except for the fact that you opened this door.
I doubt there is anyone here who doesn’t think the situation in Eastern Europe is awful (it could be called many other things).
So, there is likely no debate about that, like there might be with national politics (in the end, I suppose it is “political,” but not the sort of politics that are represented by different points of view in the US, for example).
So, to mention or acknowledge that there is a horrible situation in Ukraine is unlikely to devolve into rancorous jabs back and forth.
And maybe it’s important to let this situation touch us. It’s my impression that most did not want to touch WWII with a 10 foot pole — until they were forced to. Maybe it takes some collective willpower to stop this from becoming an even bigger and more threatening situation. Something that could affect us all, well beyond the availability of skis.
Again, I don’t say any of this to be in your face about it — I just see this differently than you seem to.

Yes a forum a baout skiing- and the Fischer ski factory that produces 40% of all the skis made in the world is in grave danger of being destroyed or taken over by Russia. 3,000 employees of Fischer skis are in mortal jeopardy, many of their families have already fled to Hungary. Sorry bro but that IS ski news.

Hoping all the employees stay safe! My heart breaks for the people in Ukraine. My grandma, babushka, who became an ancestor over 30 years ago, was born in Ukraine, and it would break her heart to see what's happening there now. Although I was born in that place that starts with an "R", we had to escape as refugees 45 years ago because my dad was persecuted by the KGB for the crime of listening to poetry (at the same time that the person perpetrating war crimes now was in that same KGB, in that same "5th Directorate" that targeted dissidents, artists, musicians, and poets). That war criminal does not speak for the people of Russia.
This is not politics, this is humanity. My mom and I disagree deeply about politics, but on this we agree (and not just because we're part-Ukrainian).
Sending protective thoughts to the employees, and all the people of Ukraine.
