The 2022 (32nd annual) Midwest Telefest is going on February 11-13 at the Porcupine Mountains ski hill:

The Porkies is a fun area for lift served groomers and SC/BC skiing. Lots of groomed XC trails all around as well. The view from the top is worth the trip alone. The crowd is fun and the events are well attended.

I’ll be there this year. I’ve never been to the Porkies, I’m kind of excited to see a part of the state just a smidge further west than I ever have been.
The fact the snow map indicates a good snow pack doesn’t hurt either.

Snow depth and snow forecast for the next 10 days looks promising. I think you'll be impressed with what the area has to offer. The Porkies are incredibly scenic and accessible. Lots of bc opportunities and lots of fun to be had on groomers and sidecountry. I'll be there for the week.

This area is really nice! The terrain is interesting, and I’m pretty sure a little exploration will reveal more. The snow is great, and the people are nice.
Telemark isn’t dead, however there is a lot of gray hair at Midwest Telefest! There also are a good amount of young people as well. There certainly are a lot of really good Tele skiers here.

Glad you made it Fish! I thought the same thing about all the gray hair at Telefest. And I agree that there's a lot of great tele skiers there. So many interesting and diverse styles of doing tele turns. The snow was fantastic all week and it was very cold. I hope you got to explore off-trail because the trees were awfully fun to ski in that deep turny soft snow.

I’m really glad I made it. It’s been a few years since I rode a chair, ever since my son started being so busy! It took a few runs to find my left foot, but everything clicked. There is a lot to ski here. I found untracked runs Sunday afternoon! Cold Lake Superior snow is so nice! The terrain is big enough to keep me interested, and I just scratched the surface.
There was a large turn out of Tele skiers, and most were really good skiers. To me the area is really pretty. I’m attaching a couple photos

Nice photos Fish! Here's one from the west Vista looking into the park. Lots of terrain to explore and very beautiful.

A cold clear day complete with Lake Superior sea smoke. Nice to see it from the other side.

Where are you at, Wabene? I’m just a tourist in the Upper Peninsula. My close to home shots would be Lake Huron or Lake Erie sunrise shots, when the water isn’t hard.
