Anyone ever try ankle guards/support inside their nordic/BC boots?

I am going to give it a shot for some extra padding and support. I have some Alpina Montana NNNBC boots that are supportive enough for what I do, but a little extra support sounds nice, maybe a sock-type insert used in soccer/etc.
Bad idea? Possibly. Better to just buy some stiffer boots? Oh yeah but I like to experiment.

It would be more comfortable to put the plastic on the outside. The made Telemark boots like these, which led to plastic Telemark boots. It started with guys riveting on plastic cuff stiffeners

my first tele boots back in the 80's were a pair of leather Asolo Extremes. I hack sawed the plastic cuffs and liners out of a pair of old Nordicas and used webbing underfoot to hold them in place. the Nordica cuff offered 2 buckles and the cut-off inner liner provided padding and comfort. basically I made a zero-budget version of Merrill Supercomps. worked great and I even sold the setup at a local ski swap.
