The bright minds at Scott and Crispi somehow altered the duckbutt's distance from the toe. This has happened for several folks and one guy on FB said he fixed the problem but adding duct tape to his duck butt. Sounds like a short-term fix but might be worth trying. Or get Scarpa boots.

Scott and Crispi didn't alter the toe to duckbutt dimension. That's a fixed dimension within the NTN standard, and one that is very rarely out of spec from the manufacturers. However, tech fittings to duckbutt and/or toe to tech fittings is not a defined measurement within the NTN standard, and some inconsistencies with placement of the toe fittings has come out (which wasn't an issue before Lynx/Meidjo bindings), but I've pretty much never heard of the toe to duckbutt dimension being off.
Back to the OP, pretty much all instances of a boot not fitting in a toe cage NTN binding (Freeride/Freedom/Outlaw) is that the total toe height is slightly high, and is generally cured by very minor trimming of a little rubber off the sole.
Also, make sure you're not trying to put a large boot in a small binding or vice-versa.

My 28 Mondo Crispis lock in fine to my size large Outlaw X's (and Outlaw before them). Never had any issues.
I believe that problem was with the smaller boot sizes and the small binding.

Correct. Mine work fine, as do the Crispis both my sons use with Meidjos.

Both have seemingly caused problems with NTN and NT Tech binders, not every year or every model and I think size matters too. And I stand corrected about toe to duckbutt; it's pins to duckbutt that's in need of a precise standard (apparently). There are jury-rigging fixes, but we should all complain to Scott, Crispi, 22D, Rotte, M-Equipment to get their specs in shipshape.

Do you mean that your friend can't HEAR the tech fittings engage?
Do they actually engage, but not audibly?
I don't understand what the problem is that you are describing.

I think it's an auto-correct mistake, and that 'her' = 'get'

That would make sense.
The Voodoos have an actual Dynafit licensed fitting.

Tech fittings have nothing to do with his friend's problem though, since they're using an Outlaw-X. His issue is either the toe won't go all the way into the toe-cage (and needs some sole shaving) or wrong size combination between boot and binding (which is pretty common near the break)
