I agree with Cantunamunch that telemark skiing should become an XCd discipline. It should become a niche sport like equestrian riding and jumping that you almost have to be born into. If you are an exceptional talent then XCders might invite you into the sport when you are 12 or 13.
Non-XCd telemark should be eliminated immediately. Telemark skiing is going to move into ski areas as mogul skiing disappears. No stopping it. When we telemark at Jackson Hole 10 years from now we want people to watch us popping turns with soft boots and long narrow XC-like skis. We want them to understand deeply that we are the top of the ski pyramid. Almost a superior species.
FYI, I'm in the 40% of XCders on TT, which means that 60% of you are better than I am.

I was a nordic racer until 20, olympic style ski jumper as well, and competed in Nordic Combined. I started Tele skiing when I was 12, so about 35 years ago. even with that background I have to admit that I have no idea what "XCD" means or why it is or is not Telemark skiing? does XC D stand for cross country downhill?

I dunno, I try not to make a religion out of things. I'm comfortable with the term "free-heel" skiing. Sums it up without excluding anything.
Just "skiing" works too. Around here everybody does everything anyway so maybe I just don't get it.

ok, so after reading some of the wiki, sounds like I learned to XCD when I was 12yo. we often took to the local alpine ski area on our cross country racing skis. very skinny skis, no edges and flimsy ski shoes( not really boots).
I then progressed to mounting my ski jumping bindings to downhill skis. I think this is called SJD Ski Jump Down hill
finally I bought back country skis with cable bindings and proceeded to hack saw the cuffs off a pair of downhill ski boots to add additional support to my Asolo Extremes. I think this is called HDFH - Hybrid Downhill Free Heel
now, with my NTN setup at lift serve areas, I'm pretty sure I am simply Telemark skiing.

Long Beach Comp Ton
No, just Light Backcountry Touring. When I first started XC I heard that term a lot locally, I think it was a way to differentiate from more Alpine/DH oriented Backcountry?
Never hear it anymore or see it on the net really, but it muddys the waters a little more.
LBCT pride

Blasphemy!!!!
The ancients decreed that it's only tele in leathers. Plastic boots are sin.
What your doing is FHD, free heel, downhill.
Makes you wonder, if I free-heel up and down in an Alpine zone, is that Alpine touring?
