What's wrong with 14" new snow over 0 base? Seems like it would be deep enough to do some ups and downs without risking the skis.

Also, mtb already? Aren't trails just pure mud at this point? I road bike. Well, gravel roads are my favorite though the usfs roads still covered in snow, wide enough tires and suitable frame for off pavement/dirt and gravel, but not mtb trails. I may bike camp over to mqt sometime this summer when it's too hot inland, experience a little city life while there. However after living in the woods for this long I get anxious in crowded places like mqt. Couldn't believe how crowded it felt last time I was there.
Idk if we’ll get anything close to a foot. Even a foot of wet snow will compress to nothing. Whatever falls won’t be uniform, so patchy, real thin. Stone grinding… without the precision.

Mud is part of the mountain bike deal. Helps when it’s warmer, sunny. Today we have the warmth but thin cloud cover here. Tomorrow will be colder, wet. That’s when it blows toes.

How long have you lived in the woods? Nice piece of property, cabin?

14"s, even with no base would most likely be worth the drive. It could even be epic. I'd bring the fat skis though.

It’s 79 in Ishpeming, 61 in Ontanogan just to frame things. The NWS predicts 42 tomorrow, 34 Monday, 38 Tuesday. 22 both nights. Forecast is for 4-6”. An anomaly could happen. Sometimes does. Never know that’s til it happens… fickle this time of year on the UP. Rarely lasts.

@mca80 I certainly would be on that 14” if I got a chance. We sometimes get a good amount of snow in late November/early December before the ground freezes up, fortunately I didn’t know it was going to be bad skiing, and always had fun.
I was fishing on Lake Huron today, it might have got into the sixties. The water is still in the forties so I was wearing my drysuit in the kayak. The light breeze brought just enough of the coolness of the water to my level to keep it comfortable in the drysuit. Last weekend it was 3 footers and sleet!

Blizzard in the Porkies atm. National,Guard activated. Ski Patrol lost, feared dead in avalanche conditions. Red Cross setting up a relief station in Negaunee. LOL

Maybe a dusting in next couple of days. Sleet more of a possibility. Doesn’t rule out big snow, but the NWS seems to think it’s unlikely.

Reminds me of little league. Inexperience swings at every pitch. Swatting flies. By junior league, players wait for ones that actually cross the plate. Skiing just like that. Especially in the early, late season.

Actually, given the blizzard warning, plus the forecast for Silver City, they do expect big snow. Might as well have sent a webcam image from last summer, it's about as useful for a forecast that applies a day after the screenshot. 9 to 14" forecast follows:

Tonight
Rain showers, snow showers, and sleet before midnight, then snow showers, possibly mixed with sleet between midnight and 2am, then snow showers after 2am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 30. Windy, with a north wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 4 to 6 inches possible.

Monday
Snow showers. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 34. Windy, with a north wind 30 to 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 6 inches possible.

Monday Night
Snow showers, mainly before 2am. Low around 31. Blustery, with a north wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

I wouldn’t drive down the block on this forecast. Not an indictment of NWS. There is no base, ground is warmer. Temperatures above freezing most of the day.

Doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Anything possible, including raining democrats. Likelihood of anything worth skiing on, not great atm. Not being a wet blanket. just highlighting differences between what might fall out of the ski and what will likely stay on the ground. I wouldn’t drive 3 hours on this bet. If I lived ~1 hour away, maybe. Only on the weekend. Wouldn’t take the day off work to find out though.

Weathermen and Jim Cramer can be wrong 50% of the time and not lose their jobs.
