The ironic thing Stephen is that the "releaseability " of the binding may have been a reason you chose it, and I can't argue with that. I can't say if 75mm would have been safer, but if your heart is in XCD I think you should look at the T4 for the future. T4 + wide stable ski + low angle + slower speed + soft snow = pretty safe, IME.
Do you have a hard cast on it and if so when does it come off?

I agree Allen, with the caveat that my skiing has deteriorated a bit by only skiing my backcountry terrain. I think I rode chairs maybe 1/2 dozen times at the end of my season, and while my skiing wasn’t where I wanted it to be, the improvement was dramatic. I am looking for a more resort oriented kit for next season, that would include a more active binding. Since the binding would be more active, I am also thinking possible release would be beneficial. I am leaning towards the new Voile TTS system.lowangle al wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 7:30 amThe ironic thing Stephen is that the "releaseability " of the binding may have been a reason you chose it, and I can't argue with that. My motivation is twofold, I like to ski fast. I also want to be back on my A game as physically my body is going the other way, I want the skills sharp to compensate for an older body.

Stephen was skiing with a wide ski.lowangle al wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 7:30 amT4 + wide stable ski + low angle + slower speed + soft snow = pretty safe, IME.
He was skiing on loose, unconsolidated snow.
He was skiing at low speed.
So what you’re really saying is use a specific boot, binding, Maybe could explain reasons for that. “Pretty safe”? Does that mean safer than TTS. Why.

Stephen… Still early in your recovery. One step at a time. Great physio is hard to find, book. Start looking, booking consults asap. Shop around. Needs access to good equipment. Leg press, leg bench, treadmills… different types. Costs money… yep. Worth every penny, esp early on.

I agree. XCD on wide xcd skis and light plastic boots on lower angle slopes is lower risk for serious injury than heavy tele on groomers IMO. Speed is usually much lower and because of ungroomed snow and multiple obstacles, your attention is focused on the snow and hazards muchlowangle al wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 7:30 amThe ironic thing Stephen is that the "releaseability " of the binding may have been a reason you chose it, and I can't argue with that. more than when on groomers where
sometimes we let our guard down and ski in autopilot. Not to mention the false sense of security that releasible bindings and helmets provide.

A low boot like the T4 and a 75mm binding doesn't hold your leg as rigidly as it does in an ntn set up. There is more wiggle room so it's less likely that an accident like what Stephen experienced will happen.

OW! Okay, that's pretty scary. About all I can say is "best of wishes" as I don't think any advice I could give would be relevant. The fact that you're considering alpine and XCD as a combo may be the way to go, though.
Re: Meidjo Release, Maybe, Maybe NOT
You’d be right if the issue was a boot top fracture. Not that tho. If the issue is ankle, binding immobility, flexibility… XPlore or NNNBC with a soft boot would be even safer. I’d laugh… except this is where tele came from. Still too early for this kind of discussion.lowangle al wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 10:05 amA low boot like the T4 and a 75mm binding doesn't hold your leg as rigidly as it does in an ntn set up. Not seeing this as an X vs Y issue yet. More bits of different things adding up to an accident. Need to understand each bit to figure it out. Skier responsibility. Stephen was there. Important to focus on his words, ask Qs… not skip steps to reach a conclusion on cause, prevention. If that’s the goal. Not sure it is…

Manney, I think you should try telemark skiing, I think you'd like it.
