Yeah, probably the same species, but unless the ones in your photo are cows and calves our Alaskan caribou would kick the snot out of them.

Reindeer are different than caribou.
It's the same animal, Eurasian or North American, wild or farmed. A number of sub-species have evolved due to different habitats.

I use the following site (login required) to determine where the Norwegian wild herds are, so that I can keep well away from them. They already have far too much disturbance from human activity. If common sense doesn't prevail then the lawmaker will step in.

I love Norway and Norwegians, but on ecological matters they are pretty bad- still dump untreated mine tailings in the ocean (they will not sign that treaty), the hydro projects have ruined most of the lakes and rivers in the arctic and many other parts, they still whale, mining and lumber projects always win out against preservation. My Sami friend right now is fighting the proposed mine on the Nasafjellet, right in the middle of his grazing lands- it is a massive Chinese-Norwegian proposal (that means China bribed a Norwegian to stick his name on it) for quartz and another mineral- it will have those giant dump trucks, I forget how many a day, and they say the dust cloud will be 17km long. This fight has been going five years now, still no decision but he is not hopeful (even with the change of governments). The Sami have always had problems with the Swedish and Norwegian governments.

Same species, yes. Same animal, no. A standardbred is not the same as a quarter horse which is not the same as a thoroughbred which is not the same as an Arabian, which is not the same as wild mustangs which are not the same as feral horses, yet all are horses, and all do share ancestry at some point.
What about a clothes horse?

Not sure. I know the pommel horse shares ancestry with the great Godolphin Arabian but through a series of 3x4 inbred crosses to the saw horse has developed its own line.

That is a good question! I imagine peppers I have to ask Olof (that was about five years ago). He first boiled the reindeer in that pot by the sink, and we ate it simply cooked in its own juices- that is how they eat in the field when him and his son are out herding. I was stuffed thought that was it, then he broke out the other one- the little steaks. Another time I was over and we went out to his BBQ shed where he had a party and cooked it shredded over the fire and we ate it on flat bread, that was one of the finest meals I ever had.

I'm guessing they were more tender cuts if cooked in a pan over a fire, i.e. quickly. How does that animal compare to deer? I've never had a chance to eat anything closely related to whitetail except some mule deer once.

This was a great end of tour meal at Nikkaluokta Sarri in Swedish Lapland. It is a Sami restaurant right by where we caught the bus back to civilization or vice a versa. A little bit touristic (it is on a road) but nicely done. Skied there from Katterat, Norway over a few days. The meat is Moose the other plate not sure, looks like it was some kind of a berry massacre. Awesome meal after eating trail food for a few days. Vegetarian option...yeah right!
