if it's a plastic riser. you only get so many times you can screw into it. remember to turn the screw backwards until you here and feel it "click" of it dropping in place and then screw in normally, this way the threads will follow the old pathways, do less damage, and not pull out as easy. Voile told me they are comfortably with 3 binding changes on their plastic riser. Your comfort level may be different, of course. Just something to keep in mind.
Has anyone here set plastic risers up with something like Binding Freedom inserts? That would, in theory at least, allow for unlimited binding changes. I've set inserts in skis but not in riser tops and I don't see why it wouldn't work there as well.
It depends on the riser and what's underneath. They are not necessarily a plastic box, but weight-optimized and hollow underneath with plastic stringers underneath, there may not be enough material to drive in an insert.

But I really like where you're going with this.
Oh, definitely hear you on the look underneath. G3 riser looks way (1.3mm) beefier around the hole than the Voile.

Caveat emptor folks, just throwing some ideas around.

@fisheater Good call, would need just a slight counterbore on the riser bottom to clear the head and some epoxy to prevent the dreaded spin. Easy job!

@Stephen Dude, it sounds dirty when you say it that way.

Apologies for going so far off topic.

The 10mm riser plates are there because I like the climbing wires, and also because it would allow me to switch around the main bindings, Rottefella ST Hardwire cable, with the Voile 3 pin cables on my Nansens on the fly, if I find one or the other more suited to XC as opposed to more vertical tours.

I have done numerous binding changes on Voile risers and being careful like Woods suggests I never noticed any degrading of the risers.

Pertaining wax vs waxless. I never skied any Asnes skis, but in general I would rather ski a well waxed single camber ski than any double camber scaled ski that I've ever tried, for k&g performance.

Anyone ever compare a waxed Ft to a scaled Ingstad?

Not on the same day... I will file this away for future experiment.

Al, I think you would probably shine on the 196 FT62.

Do we know anything about the material quality of the WL Ingstad? Extruded base?
Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

I do need a ski like that in my quiver to replace my 30 year old Atomic Tour Cap Lites.

How are Asnes scales compared to voiles, as far as grip, noise and drag?

We're still trying to figure that out. But all experience so far indicates to: glide is the priority, bigly. Grip is poor on inclines.
