Re: Xplore vs. 3pin+cables
Been waiting for this! Thanks for the review and glad you liked the new system. I think it’s allowed me to progress in XCBC and XCD, faster than other systems.
I’m registered for the N.Utah Crowbar AT/Skimo race this weekend, Rec division: 5.5 miles, 2,300 ft elevation change with three climbs. I’ll be skiing Falkentind 62 with Xplore bindings and the Alfa Free boot. (I have completely solved the heel lift problem.) It’s an AT race so I’ll be odd man out using XC/tele gear. It has snowed most of the day today and temperature up there at race time is predicted to be around 1°. Planning to use Toko blue glide wax with Swix Polar V05 under foot and Xskins. (I know from experience that tip to tail V05 will grip like crazy in those conditions.)
Honestly, I’m scared crapless. I can climb all day but my downhill form, while improving, ain’t the best. If the powder is good I should be okay. It it is tracked out… it’ll be interesting! Should be a good test of this setup though. I’d probably be a bit better off on @Tom M ’s Voile Objectives but I’ll use the tool I have.
Wish me luck!

Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

Re: Xplore vs. 3pin+cables
All we need to do is to have Voile sell a kit using the parts from their tts system. Omit the tech toe, modify the plastic plate to accept the Xplore binding and produce a screw and glue in heel piece for the boot, and presto changejo, a hardwire Xplore system.

Re: Xplore vs. 3pin+cables
That reminds me, was looking at the Xplore bindings in the shop. And saw it’s kind of a Dynafit/tech binding turned inside out. They could have just put tech fittings on a XCD boot and called it good? Might be tough to get the bumpers in there? Definitely couldn’t get a patent monopoly !!!Tom M wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 5:50 pmAll we need to do is to have Voile sell a kit using the parts from their tts system. But what I'd really like is a very lightweight NTN telebooot to use with a tech toe to replace my Switchback. Come on Scarpa, don't let the XCD boot manufactures gobble up all my discretionary spending. There is a time and place for these heel springy thingy systems. The Xplore system is great, but it doesn't cover all the bases.
