Sorry to disappoint you, the Xplore works perfectly. If you are only skiing downhill with huge clunky skis there is also a better alternative to 75mm 3 pins for that too. A big bonus with the Xplore is that you can still call yourself a pinhead with a clear conscience : )

Re: Boot misfortune - can anyone help?
Not sure it is worth the time and effort. If I really wanted to try and fix this, I would drill holes in the sole and toe of the boot, glue it together with contact cement, then use a speedy stitcher to sew the sole and upper together thru the drilled holes.
Since this happened twice to you, you are either unlucky or put too much stress on cemented construction boots.
If you wan=not to continue with leather, get a boot with stitched on soles.

@turnfarmer
Thanks for the heads up! I edited my first post to clarify that the first failure was not the same as the second one. The first one (cracked duckbill) is probably a defective boot in the first place since I could use it for only a few weeks... The second failure, I suspect, comes from traveling in deep powder on flat terrain with submarines instead of skis. Last winter was really snowy in my area and I often had snow up to my calves when skiing.
I wanna try to repair them at least to finish the season mixing them with my T4s and let Xplore get a bit more millage. I'm aware of its apparent greatness but I'm suspicious about its durability. Do you know what brand still makes stitched soles? I could go for it if the duckbill is somehow more solid than on glued boots. To be honest, I don't mind the system, I just want something durable.

Evidently you don't know what I do and are just looking for trouble. I don't care how industry works no matter where it originates. I ski downhill in nansen and/or kongsvolds with nnnbc and alpina 1600.randoskier wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 5:16 pmThen you do not understand how Norwegian industry works. Re: Boot misfortune - can anyone help?
That is a rather rude reply. Relax we are talking about ski bindings! Rottafella did a little bit of work while developing the Xplore (as well as getting a buy in from every major Nordic boot maker) before unleashing it on the skiing public. It has been widely accepted and will very rapidly render NNN BC binding completely obsolete (NNN BC has zero advantages over the Xplore). I doubt you will see any NNN BC bindings being offered two years from now.mca80 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 6:10 pmEvidently you don't know what I do and are just looking for trouble. If it’s a Vibram, they have a boot repair/cobbler finder.
https://eu.vibram.com/en/stores?cobbler
Does Rott repair if you care?

Oh Snap! You didn’t. Oh yes I did!

What a baby. On the downhill side I was referring to NTN binding being superior to 75mm. So on one end you have the Xplore is far superior for touring and most XCD and the NTN is superior for heavy downhill stuff.mca80 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 6:10 pmEvidently you don't know what I do and are just looking for trouble. 75 mm is obsolete, it will be gone shortly on all new boots. End of cycle.

I wouldn't say that this binding or that boot is better or last longer... When I read the posts, I see that it is definitely you, that is the better.randoskier wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 6:33 pmlol@ 'While many are stamping their Birkenstocks in frustration at the abandonment of one of the longest-running standards in the ski world, the podcast’s focus was on the range of opportunities for tele boot technology."
You should definitely send us some pictures or vids of you skiing that incarnation of progress, to show us how to do it...
