If getting any exercise at all, I still cant imagine anything other than solely wool. For something ultralight, cheap, windproof to put on for an extended downhill, a hefty bag works.

I've been using a voormi hardened wool layer on top of a short sleeve wool shirt. I literally use it from 5-30 degrees. I zip on the hood when I get cold. I unzip it down to the stop when it gets warm. I throw on a goretex jacket for the downhill and if the weather turns sour.

Interesting. I hadn’t heard of hardened wool. Looks nice, but quite pricey.climbingnerd wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 4:53 pmI've been using a voormi hardened wool layer on top of a short sleeve wool shirt. I literally use it from 5-30 degrees. I've been using a Patagonia Wind Shield jacket for years and it's become my go to for everything backcountry. I should have bought another one years ago because of course they discontinued it. Prime feature I like is the front and sleeves are wind stopper that sheds snow well, the back and arm pits are highly breathable thinner fleece so less back sweat while wearing a pack. Also, no hood which I prefer for layering. I like the look of the RAB Borealis you picked up but the RAB Stormveil Windstopper Jacket appears to be the Unicorn I've been trying to find.

As far as wool goes; that's for long underwear...
