Foot length and mondo boot size relationship

Post by lowangle al » Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:18 pm

My friend is looking for T4s for his wife and the only ones he can find are in Norway with no return option available. Her foot measures 25cm and is a normal width, the only size available is a 26.5.

My foot measures 26 and is very wide and I wear a 27.5 which is very comfortable. My previous boot 27s were tight and uncomfortable after a few hours.

My wifes feet are very narrow and also measure 26 with one slightly bigger. She wears a 27 T4 and had to add an aftermarket footbed to make them fit. Her previous boot was a 26.5 and her toe rubbed and she lost a toenail.

I measured the footbed in my 27.5s and it measured exactly 27.5 so I'm thinking you would need a boot at least a half cm longer than your foot length.

Does anybody know how foot length correlates to mondo size and do you think the 26.5 will be to big for a 25cm foot.

I don't know the official correlation; I just measured my right foot (slightly larger than my left), it's 26.5cm, and very narrow. I've been wearing 27 Scarpa's for 20+ years, always with an aftermarket footbed to better fit my high arch and lower volume. A 26.5 has fit me just as well. Unless they've changed in recent years, a 26.5 and a 27 Scarpa are the same shell, they just fluff up the liner a bit and call it a 26.5.
I tried a 25.5/26 T1 and it was definitely too small for me.
Assuming Scarpa sizing has remained the same (don't know, mine are a good 10 years old), it would seem to me that a 26.5/27 shell would be too large for your friend's wife at 25cm.

And, I'll just put this out there... when I went to try/buy some T4's a couple years ago, I ended up leaving with a pair of Excursions. Although there kinda roomy volume wise, the flex and cuff were way more comfy for me than the T4's. First Garmont's I've owned. Been quite pleased with them with my Objective's, for skiing, probably, similar stuff to what you do. I also found them perfectly fine for a day at the resort on my Waybacks.

My mondopoint normal shoe sizing is 26.5--27, a US men's 8.5 or 9.
My T2 Eco's are 25.5 shell size and fit perfectly with thin Smartwool ski racing socks.
I don't think T4s have moldable liners, meaning the liners are thicker, so I would probably wear my normal shell size with regular thickness sox in those boots.
Why not call these people or send em an email and ask about T4 sizing tips?

SCARPA Size Chart
SCARPA ski boots use Mondo sizing.

SCARPA ski boots break on the half size, this means that a half size shares the same shell length as the whole size above it but the liners are lasted for each 1/2 size. For example, a 25.5 and 26.0 are the same shell size but the respective liners come pre-molded to the half size.

Some skiers may want to downsize up to 1 full Mondo size, depending upon personal preference.

Thanks for the replys and info. Yeah I think the 26.5 might be too big for her. I guess I get away with wearing boots 1.5 cm longer than my foot because my foot is so wide. They are both looking for boots and not surprisingly are having a tough time.

My buddy also looked for some Excursions with no luck. The salesman told him they were no longer making them.

Try this for Excursions: https://en.aventurenordique.com/scott-e ... boots.html

Note that Scott's shell sizing is not the same as Scarpa's. The Excursions share a 25/25.5 shell.

You might also give the Fey brothers a call. Their website indicates they may have some:

Are those T4 the ones from the Ebay shop?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Scarpa-T4- ... 4363537242
From the pictures they may be the older model and I'm not sure that the liner is thermoformable fwiw.
I ordered mine (new T4 model) via the local ski shop, they suggested 290 based on length but I tried other scarpa telemark boots in that size and found them too tight. I ended up with 300.
