Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup
Re: Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup
My latch kept popping open also.
Freeheelfreemind, do you notice any drag in deeper snow with the cable around the heel riser?

Re: Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup
I use electrical tape to mark my cable location and also to prevent it from loosening when not on the toe piece.
Is the riser not a pain for regular kick 'n glide touring? I'd think they are not idea.

Re: Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup
The riser is not a problem for kick and glide for me, but since I mounted the riser with inserts and metal screws I can take them off in minutes.
I skied through 4 inches of fresh powder recently and I had no noticeable drag from cable locked around the riser heel.
FYI, since i used inserts I can change my bindings to my Chilis which work better with my Crispies for more downhill. Going with inserts on binding install really opens up a lot of options. I'm glad I did it.

Re: Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup
I just installed a pair of Voile 3pin cables with the new Rottefella 3pin cable binding on a pair of Asnes Combats. No chance to ski on it yet, but it looks good.
Fwiw, those new Rottefella cables also will fit the Voile 3 pin cable binding, in place of the Voile cables, but the reverse is not true. Since I do have other skis with the Voile, I think I can now just carry the Rottefella cables in my pack and use them for both. With the flip-up, flip-down heel lever, I believe it will be more convenient to use than those pesky Voile coil spring side-throws.

Re: Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup
"So is the general process then to just gradually tighten each spring cable 1 turn at a time until the latch has just enough resistance to close?"
I'd suggest gradually tightening both cables evenly, while keeping the heel piece centered, until you get a crisp, clean snap when closing the throw. This can be felt, and heard. The le3ver goes past a point of resistance, then clips easily and positevely when closed.Next, loosen the inside cable one turn, and tighten the lever side two turns. Also be sure the heelpiece is in full contact with the heel groove; it can be bent by hand to tweak if needed.
You can play around with tension once you have that right, remembering to then tighten or loosen both cables easily.

Now I'm intrigued. Does anyone know where we can buy just the Rottefella cable for use with our Voile 3 pins?fgd135 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 9:29 amI just installed a pair of Voile 3pin cables with the new Rottefella 3pin cable binding on a pair of Asnes Combats. I looked up the prices for the parts on the Norwegian Rottefella website.Tom M wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 9:11 pmNow I'm intrigued. The parts listed are not for the Rotte ST cable, but for the Cobra.
Scrounging around total cable sets for Rotte Cobra R8 (springs + hooks + heelpieces) totals to 1298 NOK (= about 150 USD)
I assume that IF the ST cables were to be sold in parts, it would be a similar amount. And it is about the same price as a whole new binding set.
Perhaps getting some second hand cobra bindings and scavenging them, is the best way to try this?

Re: Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup
If I was looking for a pair of new cables for my Voile 3 pin cable, and didn't already own a pair of the Rottefella ST cables, I'd call Voile and see it their Switchback cables would work in that binding--would be relative cheap @ $55 a pair. Just a head's up, though, that SB heel unit might be too narrow for some leather boots.
You can probably find a brand new pair of Switchbacks or Cobras for a lot less than retail right now if you want to scrounge it for parts, or a used pair on Fleabay or Cragin'slist.
