Do I need to remove spray on grip wax?

Post by Lars » Thu Feb 08, 2018 12:03 pm

I've been trying Swix spray on grip wax on my E88s, and I cannot find information on if I need to remove it after use.

If so, what is a recommended product or technique for removing spray on grip wax?

This is the first time I've heard of spray on grip wax. If you go to the swix website you can ask them.

Thanks. I have asked; no response yet.

Was hoping someone here had experience with it.

Pretty much the same as a rub on wax... If you want to put a colder temp wax than what you sprayed on your skis, you need to remove... if you put the same or hotter temp wax, you can leave it there, depending... if you did put a thick coat, you might have to scrape some; the thing tends to be gooey... I used it in the past; do not like it that much.

I use Goo Gone to strip wax from my skis. I am sure some might find it improper, but it works. I always put some type of wax back on after I strip skis. I like base binder wax, I have just started using polar, but base binder lasts longer. I then put kick wax of the day over. I don't strip unless the wax gets thick and does not scrape off. If I need to use red/silver wax, I will probably strip it off when temperatures drop. If I am using blue or green, I just scrape and apply wax of the day over the top

Paint thinner worked like a charm for me when I was in a pinch. I don't think I'll buy wax remover anymore.

Hmmmm....

I don't know if I would worry about it too much- especially if you have put some significant miles on.

Spray-on waxes- either glide or grip- don't have much retention and longevity.

I can't imagine it is designed to last beyond a short "afternoon" tour.

I would think you could apply a different spray-on wax each time you go out for a 2-4hr tour.

I have tried it- works- didn't terribly impress me, compared to true grip wax/klister- didn't last more than a couple of hours- even less on abrasive snow.
Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.
