Paddlesport
Re: Paddlesport
Haha - wtf? Not you guys too?
My wife and I have been talking about buying a small, van-type RV as well at some point to facilitate skiing. The idea is something you can sleep in that has heat to get away from hotels. I'm not really sure how feasible that is, and they are quite expensive.
I'm afraid though if I get something like that my wife will make me do cross country (not skiing) tours to deserts and other places we don't have around here during the summer.
I really, really just want one of these:

Buy it now, the tent and stove , it's a long term investment that may last the rest of your life.
Re: Paddlesport
Well this year may prove to be ultra-mellow on the canoe tripping front... my wife is pregnant with triplets so I don't think she will be able to do any difficult portages. I could always double carry everything myself but me dying of heat stroke probably won't be the best long term plan for my brood of kids to be.
I've already thought it through and decided on a number of trips with short portages where we can get out for a couple days. I'm hoping we can make it to peak leaf season before we are put on travel restriction!
I haven't been super motivated to get back in the boat until it's time to head north, but it's been really hot lately, so I think today is the day to get out on the water for a few hours.

TRIPLETS, WOW. Thats great, but won't be good for your rec persuits for a while.
I had to cancel my annual canoe trip for this weekend because I crushed a finger at work on Tuesday when an abraisive stone grinding wheel blew up on me. I don't know the prognosis yet but have an appt. with an ortho doc on Thursday. Hopefully I'll be able to paddle since I'll be back East the end of this month for a family wedding.

Yeah it's going to be tough for a few years - I hope I can make it through...
Got out yesterday afternoon. Man, I'm kicking myself for waiting this long... I'm beat... and I didn't even go that far.
Hope your finger is OK - yikes!

You're going to need a bigger boat.
Re: Paddlesport
Yes - very true. I might trade in my solo canoe for a 17' tandem at some point. Probably once the kids get old enough to paddle themselves.

When paddling down a river, the waves and holes are just too tempting.
You gotta stop and play.
Surf.

This is the rapid called 'Mother'.
The most challenging rapid in the 27 miles of this route.
It's really not that hard, just a bit more than the rest of the river.
