Well, I adjusted the upper buckle today to its widest setting (it was on the middle one), which gave it perhaps another centimeter of girth. Thanks for the insight! Additional thoughts below: 1. Scarpa boots don't fit you as well as BD boots. Certainly a possibility, but hopefully it's more "beginner's ignorance" than true incompatibility.
