Anybody here done the TDL?
I had dreams once of doing the Tour de Laurentides, which I think is now called the Traverse de Laurentides. It is -- or was -- a very demanding annual x-c tour in Quebec, mainly french-speaking Quebecois on skinny waxable skis. (They frowned on waxless skis as they were not fast enough...doing 30+ ...

Re: A trip down memory lane
I sometimes take some 10th Mtns around the house..but they were not new to me. I missed this era...went straight from classic skinnies to alpine skis mounted tele in the late 80's and have since been going back and toying with some of the older skis..10th mtns, 99's. IMO leather boots still have a p...

I think that sounds very painful. Especially after you made the 3 pin joke.

What they said. Soft skis can suck breaking trail.

Re: Love my Alpina Alaskas!
Now, about the Excursions. First, I have found them to be in another league than the Alaska's in less than nice snow, and anything steeper. The Excursions give good support and do ski well but for some reason it seems like a clunky oversize boot. It seems odd that the difference in thickness betwee...

Re: Love my Alpina Alaskas!
Perhaps Smile Plates would help? Berg’s in Washington State had some in stock during the summer. I mounted a new pair of skis 75 mm this year. I mounted with Rottefella Super Telemark just to fit my Alaska 75 better than Voile. I’m impressed with the ST binding. That’s just a comment, not a suggest...

Re: All hail the fake-a-mark!
nah, I'm sticking with my definition. not falling back to a tele turn, but to a p-turn, which makes it the fake. Noobies doing this turn think they're doing a tele turn because they initiated it correctly, when it's really just a p-turn.

Re: Advice please
Not familiar with those skis but they appear to be a touring ski on which one can execute gentle turns and traverse hard packed slopes but not really a turning ski. So the 01's may be overkill and not give you as much K&G as one would want with those skis. I'd mount with pin line slightly forward (i...

Love my Alpina Alaskas!
Ok, posting here cause, well, it's not a SKI review. I got some Alpina Alaska 75 mm boots from Santa Claus. I know they're REALLY from Santa Claus cause they're his color. So, 3 days on them and I LOVE this boot. It fits neatly between my Alico leather 3-pins and my Garmont Excursions, but is much m...

??? what's your definition of F-A-M?lowangle al wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 10:09 amI don't think Baaahb is talking about true fakeamarking. He's just initiating the turn with a heavily weighted lead ski and then going into a P turn to save his legs.
