Re: Question on binding mount location
The placement of the ripped out binding looks like it was mounted with the pin line on one of those tele lines, which is a fine way to go. And I agree with lowangle al that a slight adjustment won't be noticeable, though I personally would have re-used the old holes with nylon tap inserts -- cheap a...

Re: Two different types of short radius turn
I did not mean to give you the impression that I thought that Telehiro's technique was "alpinish"- he is obviously a gifted, and highly skilled telemark/Nordic skier. It's "alpinish" in one sense -- he has very little vertical movement. In my first tele lesson a long time ago, we traversed slopes b...

Re: Two different types of short radius turn
Both great skiers; I don't think you can say one is a much better skier than the other from those short clips. Telehiro's style definitely appears much smoother and graceful. He's not going as low and the second person, by going low, may be over-emphasizing his turns for the camera. Who knows. And t...

Re: introduction
And unless you're racing or going on a 2-month expedition, I don't know why one would whittle down the considerations to that. If you're having fun on your gear, you're doing it right.CIMA wrote:If efficiency and practicality are only the issues in skiing high up in big mountains,

Re: introduction
Wow, those Down skis are pretty cool...! (A bit heavy for my taste though at 2800g...) Do you own a pair? I think what CIMA means is that while most modern rando skis are indeed super-cool, they are a bit too fat to be skied with leathers or NNN on serious terrain... They require a sturdier boot to...

Re: introduction
Clearly opinions vary. The T4 is 1490 grams; the T2 Eco is 1685. For me, the 200 grams savings isn't worth it. The T2s are more comfortable on the up and far better on the down. And when I want some light for mellow touring, I'll go with some leathers or even floppier stuff. I know a very well accom...

Re: introduction
Skiing in leather (or plastic) mountaineering boots is fucking hard. They offer next to zero support, so yeah, your balance is going to get dialed in if you do that. And skiing in leather mountaineering in Diamir Fritschi bindings is insane -- one good bump and flex, and I'd think you pop out of the...

Re: correct stance
Nice ski conditions and, I agree, it looks like you're well on your way. For me, when my front leg extends in the steeps, I am fighting the fall line rather than attacking it. Can't say what's going on with you 'cause I haven't seen it, but for me, I focus on angulating with hands forward and pointe...

Re: correct stance
All good tips. I should clarify that I don't think you're going to have a perfectly vertical rear leg, but I do think crunching those cheeks and working your abs will help one stay centered on the skis and doing that results in a more downward thrust from your shin/knee vs. sitting down on the rear ...
