Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation

The problem with waxable skis is the same skis can work well in many different conditions if the wax is right. I mean, that is a problem if you sell skis. When the skiing is not so good you think you had better wax differently next time, instead of you had better buy some different skis.

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation

By "coarse texture" do you mean the scales (crown)? The rest of the "waxless" base is usually glide waxed. They normally have the same camber in the wax model and the waxless model of the same ski. Right, I understand that both will glide best when pressure on the grip area is reduced by the camber...

Re: Excursion 88 vs. Ingstad vs. transnordic 82

I would think thinner skis would do better on icy conditions, at least a better chance of cutting down to some grippier snow, and going straight ahead.

Re: Mountain/Ski Food

If there are any good tangerines in the store, I take a bunch pre-peeled to munch on in the car after getting off the trail. Great to re-hydrate.

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation

Curious- do you find the camber-flex soft? Now that you ask, I think they are probably stiffer than my Atomics, but there is just less room to travel, and I am 30 pounds over the recommended weight. So, they do flatten to the floor with my weight spread between them. That's really what I meant. I a...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation

Getting the right wax has been surprisingly easy for me, mainly because the road conditions block access to any fresh powder, and I usually go in the afternoon. So temp is almost always above freezing, after a few days of freeze/thaw. Klister works great on that kind of snow, just a little if it's n...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation

So, I went ahead with the Admundsen 187's. Thinking I should have gone a size higher now that they are here. I expect the stiffer boot/binding and softer camber is going to do a lot for control even without going so short. But, in for a penny in for a pound! I can probably even do a kick turn, which...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation

but yeah finding gentle slopes in the 6000 foot range is more realistic in terms of cardio and lung function. i did some back-country on the north side of the Mnt High wrightwood area, where there is no resort. I recommend this spot for learning . its easy to drive up to the clearing next to the cl...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation

Been skiing e99's (TN66?) for about let's round it out, 50 years. Straight, double camber, and have been able to maneuver them well. The FEEL is close to heaven, and they stay in the track pretty well if that is what you do. Also have the 109's with rocker which I don't like at all. Down good but g...
