Re: Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

Thanks for the answer. It gives me the whole picture.

I’ll be touring with my son just flat tracks. I won’t take him to the forest :)

Re: Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

I’m 40 and I don’t mind learning and falling. Hopefully not breaking anything :) Many years ago I just tried my first skis and learned how to turn and stop in one day, without any instructor. Hope it will be same this time. About additional skins - something that will give me more grip, when going u...

Re: Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

Anyway :) My current choice is:

Madshus Panorama M78 (or M68)
Rottefella Xplore bindings
Alpina Alaska Xplore boots

I hope it will be stiff and responsive enough just to learn how to ski on telemark skis.

Re: Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

On the other hand I’ve seen guys riding in a deep snow in the woods Altai skis with binding for normal shoes. Everything is possible :) I’m aware that there will be huge difference between stiff plastic boots and soft ones, but if it’s just possible to ride it, then I’ll try. I can always upgrade la...

Re: Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

I am curious as to why you are considering those particular skis? Hi, To be honest my choice was based on this video: https://youtu.be/9PoKSmnGknA I don’t know anyone, who’s using telemark skis :) On this video I can see that soft (compared to plastic ones) shoes, Rottefella Xplore bindings and Mad...

Re: Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

Thanks. I’ll rather try to catch a nice, powder day. I can keep my snowboard for the rest of the season, when snow is not that good. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6FRA_bqbxzY Those spots and snow conditions are similar to my local places. I’m 178 cm tall and weight about 78kg. I guess longer skis wi...

Re: Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

Thanks for the answers. Trips won’t be like super long. Probably up to 10-15 km total. Skis doesn’t have to be fast - both during touring and riding. I’m done speeding, now I just enjoy the nature :) Now I’m thinking between Panorama M78 and M68. Sometimes there’s a lot of snow, where I plan to ski,...

Re: Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

Thanks for the answers!
So I guess my research was good :) Another question - is it common thing to put extra skins on the skis if I want to climb on more steep slopes?

Madshus, Rossignol or maybe something else? New to XC

Hi, I’ve used to ski many years ago, then I’ve switched to snowboarding and after ~10 years I’m planning to get back to skiing - more less. I’m totally bored with slopes and ski lifts, I prefer free ride. Now I’ve realized that it gives me more pleasure to walk/climb a bit than even riding. That’s w...
