Re: Steel edge or not to steel edge? And other pulk sled snow stuff

Something you might want to consider is inflatable snowshoes- . This sounds brilliant! I'll have to get a pair. I can also possibly skin up, depends on snow conditions. My bigger fear is getting DOWN with the pulk on skis on the narrow narrow trail, and snowshoes would be a good choice then. My pul...

Re: What's in your Pulk?

How do you cook and melt snow in such a small vestibule? Don't you get a lot of condensate with both you and your dog in such a small tent? What kind of pulk do you use? I've come to call my Akto a bivy compermise. In the evening, we get to enjoy warmth and protection while cooking snow and eating,...

Re: Steel edge or not to steel edge?

Most just disobey the leash law when descending, but some people ski downhill with their dogs on leash. As a working husky, she is always on leash. I don't haul her meat and food 300 miles just for her company. I've posted this non-metal edge topic to learn what I'm missing out using metalless edge...

Re: Steel edge or not to steel edge? And other pulk sled thoughts

I suppose my main struggle is the speed. Typically I can maintain 4-5 mph on the flats, 2.5 to 3 mph is horrendously slow. Friction makers: weight and surface area The Ski and Human The Pulk Sled I just went out today for a shorter cold weather ski. Woke up to -40f, but waited to -30f to venture out...

Re: Åsnes Otto Sverdrup BC- early impressions

These skis sound like fun! Although not the ultimate bc ski if they're unable to handle a crust. What is the ultimate all terrain all snow ski. Ayeeeya. The Åsnes website says : "efficient ski for longer trips esp. in varying terrain." Humpf

Steel edge or not to steel edge? And other pulk sled snow stuff

Ive always ski'd with my dog Gale. I always used Åsnes Breidablikk, 180 waxless (nnnbc). I haul a pulk on rods with her pulling me (she doesn't have enough umpf to get the pulk uphills alone). The sled is about 50lbs of cold weather gear, plus food and fuel. So let's say the sled is 75 lbs (34kg) fo...

Re: Sweaty feet syndrome

Having done many multi day (5-12) hikes in similar temperatures as you posted. Many helpful suggestions have already been given, these would be my additions. 1/ a VBL is actually the best option. I use the RAB VBL socks and take extreme care when putting them on to avoid rough bunched up areas. Man...

Re: Sweaty feet syndrome

@Skijoring Grace Gale Crappy. Por moi- the Expedition last is definitely wider and larger-volume than the "Guide" last- but, there is no way I could size down with the Expedition as it would be too short... Which model Alaska do you have (size 41EU?)? Yes, Alaska 41 EU. I tried again with the Lundh...
