Re: Wow, nice one
That's a nice ski in Alaska but not as challenging as the NPL in Norway which is 1,864 miles long (from the southern coast of Norway to the northern coast of Norway). My Norwegian friend Thor has the second fastest time ever skiing it- 62 days, and he skied that in his late 50s. https://www.snowind...

Re: Mountain/Ski Food
i come from the trail and ultra running world-- we don't fast. we consume as much carbohydrate as possible and are always training the gut to handle more. a caloric deficit is easy to accrue while touring or backpacking. for example if i tour for 30 miles i will easily burn 3000+ calories, in additi...

Re: Mountain/Ski Food
randoskier great break down of your nutrition for tours! you're right, you really need a lot of calories for big days and long tours. although in recent years i've stopped counting calories and instead count grams of carbs. 50-100 grams per hour while moving, plus another 200 or more grams for brea...

afterwards my favorite meal is... cannabis.

Re: Chest Pack
i wear my running vest during most sessions. tons of stretch pocket storage space in front, sides, back, etc. plus water bottles on the chest which keeps them warm (no frozen bladder tubes). salomon adv 12 is my favorite. i especially love the stretch pocket that lines the lower back that can easily...

Re: Leather Boot Stretching Question --
I have whack feet. I feel your pain. I've had good luck with the following procedure: Fill a long ski sock with uncooked rice. Tie it off. Put it in the oven at 200-240F for 15-20 min or until it's nice and warm. Stick it in the part of the boot you want to stretch for 20 minutes. Now take it out, p...

Re: Total noob setup
consider a Fischer S-Bound 98 instead of the Madshus, for the sole reason that the climbing scales are much better on the Fischer, and you'll be doing a lot of that. for boots, i recommend finding whichever boot fits the best, and then getting a binding based on that. so if you try on many boots and...
