Re: Physics debate

Nice! I think that’s the missing link, the force vector components diagram. I can certainly see it’s appeal… no scale, all force vectors of equal magnitude, symmetry that bears no resemblance to real forces, pretty colours. Like an idea, without thought or logic. I’ve asked Johnny to cancel my acco...

Re: In search of the most suitable BC ski

@randoskier "He has over 1000 km on his pulk. He paid $20 for the HDPE runners why blow another $20 on a tool you might use once or twice? He did a nice job." Oh I'd blow the money for the tool, but I do have TAS as well as GAS  Yeah, exactly. And if you plan, you might select a fastener of th...

Re: Visiting Vermont this week

Killington is awesome. You’ll get a good workout there on XC or XCD skis.

Re: In search of the most suitable BC ski

Wow man. What a gift… judging a fastener by how a sled “looks”. LOL My post wasn’t to critique Theme’s sled… it was to highlight how the lowest common denominator gains constituency around here. That part of the discussion started out on how to create a beveled hole. Reasonable suggestions followed...

Re: In search of the most suitable BC ski

Theme's solution wasn't not to create a bevel. He suggested first piloting the hole then using a larger standard bit to create the bevel. So nobody suggested not recessing the screw. Yup, I understand that. A recessed hole is different than a beveled one. A recessed hole will work fine for a dome h...

Re: Pollution

Anywhere Soviet industry is/was is like this. I suspect things get even worse in parts of the Kola. If not from ongoing dirty industry than from chemical and nuclear waste. Whatever mitigation measures are in place (like scrubbers) is either fully or partially funded by the West. Cleaning up simply...

Re: In search of the most suitable BC ski

You can just use a larger drill bit for the bevel as @Theme mentioned. I suggest the bevel bit pictured because it works really well in plastic, with a super clean cut. That is exactly what it is designed for. Plus the angle of the cut matches the bevel angle of the screw. Maybe five bucks. I would...

Re: Physics debate

Sounds good. I’ll take a 24 hour pause (125+ posts now has gotten in the way of my usual slothful retirement routine of eat until sleepy, sleep until hungry), and get back to you via PM. This will likely be my last post on this thread because, frankly, I’m happy to leave people believing in whatever...

Re: Will I ski again?

mike.horner I would have a serious sit down with your doctor, with the view to getting onto a path that would build/test your endurance, movement, and tolerance before you tempt fate on sticks. At some point, a physio will need to get involved too. Skiing might be fun, but it doesn’t replace walkin...
