Re: Liquid vs hot wax
For hot waxing, and liquid for that matter, a rotobrush makes things way faster and easier. A stiff horsehair rotobrush does a great job on cold wax with minimum scraping needed. I normally just do a quick scrape and not worry about getting every last bit of wax scrapped as the rotobrush can take ca...

Re: Xplore & the advantages of stiff stole for XC
I'm a bit surprised, incredulous and disappointed that manufacturers have not been able to innovate enough to solve the fore/aft flex vs. lateral/torsional stability challenge - especially on their latest and greatest marketing vehicle, Xplore. Unfortunately, I think they continue to flub the flex ...

Re: Question about binding for Miuntain Race 48 Skis
If you’re mostly skiing in track, I highly recommend the Rottefella Mounting Plate, second from top under [1]: https://rottefella.com/media/sparsh/product_attachment/Rottefella_InstructionGuide_MOVE.pdf The plate will support the MOVE Switch binding which allows you to shift the bindings forward and...

Re: Are the narrow nordic backcountry skis miserable on tracks?
One thing I have noted from Madshus' specs is that the Fjelltech M50 weighs 1780g for the 187cm, the current season Panorama T50 is 1380g for the 192cm, and last season's Panorama M50 is 1780g, size unlisted (I am assuming around 190cm). Why does the current season Fjelltech M50 have the same spec ...

Re: Physics debate
I’m surprised I managed to read through this whole thread. At the risk of getting muddied, I’ll put my thoughts out there. Herein is the disconnect with GS’s understanding of the mechanics of the problem. I have said, and continue to say, that the *cable* does not apply any force to the ski. Doing s...

Re: Are the narrow nordic backcountry skis miserable on tracks?
@beeeweee your posts are very thorough and it's clear you not only are very thoughtful, but also very experienced. I enjoy reading them. I do wonder how you account for the fact that your M50 is short for you and your MR48 is if anything long for you when you form your opinion of these two skis. Yo...

Re: Are the narrow nordic backcountry skis miserable on tracks?
There is a noticeable difference in speed between a mild backcountry ski (maximum width of 68 mm) and a track oriented ski (nominal width of 44 mm) when skiing on a compressed, groomed, and tracked surface. That difference is on the order of 10-20% for a proficient skier. I would largely agree with...

Re: Asnes Mountain Race 48 SKIN
I took the MR48S out for a short 5km ski on the local machine tracks today for fun since I haven’t skied these since last spring. The conditions were cold (-10°C) but firm and I was able to get good kick and glide after moving the bindings 6-12mm forward. The pair I have are 190cm which is long for ...
