If your boot outsole cracked at the pin line, I'd guess the 3 pin bail might've been too snug and pinched the toe. Using a ltwt cable binding instead of pins might still allow you to use the boots, if the midsole is not cracked. Fwiw, the older model Norwegian welted ASMB is still available on flea...
