Fix to secure glasses retainer strap
I like to wear ordinary sunglasses, rather than goggles. But I often shove them up on my forehead when looking at the phone, and sometimes I dive headfirst into the snow--so I need a retainer strap. But I haven't found a commercially available strap that will fasten securely to the thin earpieces of...

Re: Descending Narrow Trails--Skeats?
Interesting! And what a great video, thanks. From that, previous comments, and my own experience, I'm thinking I should just work on perfecting my crashes. Getting low and back sort of transitions to just sitting down without killing yourself...

Re: Descending Narrow Trails--Skeats?
Yes! Krummholz' picture captures the situation perfectly. My ski-brain started whirring instantly when I saw that: Don't want to take off skis and walk there, because that snow looks soft enough to post-hole in (and the commenters on the Facebook Backcountry Ski group would HATE that!); the short-te...

Re: Alpina Discovery 102
Finally following up, for what it's worth. These may no longer be available. But I've used them enough to have an opinion: They are a little nicer than my previous skis for trudging around—a little lighter weight, effective scale pattern. Not great gliders, of course, but I don't find them any harde...

Descending Narrow Trails--Skeats?
Most of the way down from a mountain, I often end up on a narrow, twisty summer hiking trail, with snow packed down by various traffic into a trench, or--as it feels to me--a toboggan run. As a poor and timid skier I become terrified by the loss of control, even at low speed and angle. Occasionally ...

Re: Alpina Discovery 102
Thanks for the responses! Sorry about the typo--yes, profile is 102-64-87. A bit narrow for a "telemark" ski, and a lot of sidecut. I plan to use them mostly in spring conditions, maybe on iced-up hiking trails etc at times. Good climbing ability appeals to me, as I hate messing with skins. Johnny's...

Alpina Discovery 102
Just got a pair--fishscale base, 124-64-87 profile...I'll post a review once I've tried them. Meanwhile, does anyone else have impressions of these skis? And can anyone offer advice on mounting the bindings? (Voile Hardwires)

S-Bound 112s falling apart
Had them for several years, and think I'm very happy with them (haven't really compared with anything else)...but now the patterned part of the base is delaminating and pulling off (It is a separate piece, made from a different material than the sintered base.) Is this replaceable? Can I glue the or...
