I can't get on board with being mad at a leasee doing exactly what they said they'd do, and I like it 10000x better than mining.
Mining is 1000x less damaging to the land than grazing.

Moguls

I saw a fellow telemarking down a big steep bump run today. It looked very hard but he was getting down it.

Do people regularly tele on bump runs or was this guy just loony? And what special techniques would you have to master?

Bump run; telemarker finished before I could get a shot.

First telemarker of the season

I've seen the first telemarker of the season. Not me; I ride alpine gear at resorts and the natural snow isn't good enough yet for backcountry telemark on my nordic gear. But some who are more skilled than I am take their tele gear to the artificial snow at the chairlifts. IMG_2616.JPG Here's his te...

Re: PSA: Another XC gear crunch in the offing for next season

Where are you skiing? Colorado. Keystone, A-Basin, and Loveland are open, but with limited runs based on snowmaking. Still, you can see snow starting to accumulate naturally everywhere above 3000m. The backcountry will open up with another couple storms. I did see one telemarker at Keystone yesterd...

Re: PSA: Another XC gear crunch in the offing for next season

REI had the new 21-22 Fischer S-Bound 98 and S-Bound 112 in stock in October. The web site now says that they no longer sell either product. No delays. No back orders. No waiting list. No hope for restock. Just done. B760EE9F-0DB2-46E9-A5E0-B4661CA60DF2.jpeg I have photo proof they were in stock onc...

@Woodserson I live in Southern Poland near Slovakia,
They make them in Croatia or Slovenia somewhere. Maybe they're the ones that fell off the truck or had too many blemishes to be sold for full price. Sometimes products like that get re-sold locally by factory people.

Re: S bound 98 vs excursion 88

How come you didn't go for a 112? Well, it's a balance, isn't it? I did consider 112s (and gave some thought to Åsnes Rabbs), though I haven't seen any for sale in real life. Most of my skiing is uphill on gentle climbs in deep powder. But I also climb up to huts on established trails packed by a d...

Re: S bound 98 vs excursion 88

Picked up the S-Bound 98 at REI today. Last year on the 88s in deep powder snow, I really wanted a wider ski with more sidecut and I really wanted it substantially lighter. It’s a lot of work to keep lifting a heavy ski up over deep powder snow every step so I wanted it lighter and floatier. I’m exc...

Re: S bound 98 vs excursion 88

The S-Bound 98 is a much softer ski,
At the shop, the 88 and 98 appear to have the same camber and the same glide pocket geometry. The only obvious difference is width.
