Re: Xplore binding for in track skiing? | Advice for big boy ski selection
Don't burden yourself with heavy xcd gear for in-track use, as you will never really get the full benefit of skiing in machine set trails. I decided to go this route. I'll be skiing with my son who has Fischer junior skis and thus he is set up to be track oriented as well for this season. So my pri...

FS: New Alpina Alaska XP size 45 - best deal in North America
I have a new pair of Alaska Xplore boots that are too small for me. I put one of them on for about 10 seconds before saying, nope that is too small for me. They are size 45. I normally consider myself a size 45 in euro boots or an 11.5D in American boots, but a Brannock device puts me at 11.25C. The...

Re: Xplore binding for in track skiing? | Advice for big boy ski selection
I don't mind waxing with the option of a short kicker skin for when I need it. Not adverse to scales though either. For my size, I like ~2000cm^2 of surface area to go through bottomless powder on alpine gear. That is what my powder oriented downhill skis are. Only the Altai Koms and wider Voile's w...

Re: Xplore binding for in track skiing? | Advice for big boy ski selection
"XCD" ski? This can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people... Terrain? Typical snow conditions? Traditional Nordic touring? Or- up-down downhill-oriented touring? Gareth, thanks for the reply! Terrain is the Utah Wasatch mountains. Our groomed Nordic trails are in parks and closed roads ...

Re: Xplore binding for in track skiing? | Advice for big boy ski selection
A good race level track ski will still have way better glide than a fast track-compatible touring ski. It’s like comparing a race car and a high-end SUV. I'm not looking to race, just have a solid performing recreational track ski that works in all conditions. I just want enough efficiency for it t...

Xplore binding for in track skiing? | Advice for big boy ski selection
I am just getting in started in XC skiing coming from a downhill background. I rented some Rossi classic skis and NNN boots last year and had a fun lesson at Sundance resort, but I was not impressed with NNN gear. I'm a big boy at about 6 foot / 183cm and 275lb/125kg. The NNN gear isn't really made ...

Re: Can big guys with bad knees tele?
Thanks all. I'll stick with alpine gear for the resort and look to get bigger skis. I'll fill the BC roll with a second set of kit. I'll hold off on that purchase until next year.

Re: Can big guys with bad knees tele?
Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely under skied. That was the biggest they'd give me for my second year in the learner program. I'm gonna start by setting up some demos on alpine gear to see how I do on a bigger ski. I think I'll maybe try a demo from freeheel life too to see how I do with tele. I ...

Can big guys with bad knees tele?
Hey all, I'm 6', 270lb, and my knees haven't been in good shape since I was 18 (I'm 43 now). I've alpine skied the last two years after moving to Utah. My skis are Rossi Experience 80 with a 174 length. I can ski about every Blue run at Snowbasin, and some milder blacks. Bumps are my nemesis, and tr...

Re: breathable shell jacket? is there one that lets sweat out but keeps you dry
I don't wear waterproof jackets, only waterproof pants. I wear a Särmä TST Woolshell jacket from Varusteleka. The price is great and they ship everywhere (color options are sadly limited). https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-tst-woolshell-jacket/59958 https://www.varusteleka.com/pictures/th...
