Re: Yet another newbie "what skis should I buy" question
Mca80, you are going to love the 190cm Asnes Nansen skis and I think they will be perfect for you! I am a little taller at 5'8" but the exact same weight as you, and I bought the waxable Nansens in 190cm last winter. My body weight tends to fluctuate +/- 5lbs in any given week, plus sometimes I carr...

Re: Kick Skins over Kick Wax
Somewhat related question - is it a bad idea to leave kick skins on a ski when you store them off season? Or even for shorter periods like a week or two? It seems to me like the ski would be equivalent to the backing that came with the skin. I’m new to ski skins and can’t find much info on it. I ha...

Re: Waxing Noob Question
This has been a great thread and I have learned much too! My husband and I had a very similar problem with low grip last weekend while skiing on our new Nansens (also in Colorado). I posted a question about in the thread linked below and folks had some great additional suggestions for times when ski...

Help! Need kick waxing advice after a tour with much ski back-slipping
I am brand new to kick waxing. My husband and I purchased Asnes Nansen skis in early winter and have gotten out on a few ski tours in the mountains of Colorado with them. Being new to using waxable classic skis and kick waxing, I followed the wonderful advice on this forum and had really good result...

Re: Winter solstice campout at Colorado’s Rabbit Ears Pass, plus first impressions of the Asnes Nansen
A few hints: Please close your bindings when you are not in them, open bails are vulnerable. If a ski knocks over and you step on it with the bail open, you risk a cracked bail in the middle of nowhere, or whatever combination of open bail and hard obstruction. Open, close. Open, close. Also, pulk....

Winter solstice campout at Colorado’s Rabbit Ears Pass, plus first impressions of the Asnes Nansen
With most of our vacations cancelled due to the pandemic in 2020, my husband and I turned to exploring remote backcountry areas for COVID-safe fun. Between July and October, we spent 23 nights in various wilderness areas of our home state of Colorado over many separate excursions. After a particular...

Re: Ski base cleaner formula
I have a somewhat related question to this thread. When changing between kick waxes of the day, do you have to completely clean off the last layer with base cleaner? For instance, if I used Swix green on one tour and then blue on the next excursion, how much of the green do I really need to remove? ...

Re: Sanding the kick zone of waxable backcountry XC skis?
Thanks for the thoughts on sanding bases, everyone. It makes sense that this is mainly for classic XC skis for groomed areas. I was really happy we could skip that step :) . We ironed in Swix Polar grip wax from tip to tail on our Nansens today and are ready to add our wax of the day. Now we just ne...

Sanding the kick zone of waxable backcountry XC skis?
In reading about base prep of waxable classic XC skis on the Swix and other sites, I have come across information that suggests lightly sanding the kick zone of new skis. I searched this forum and didn't find much on that. Is this something you all do when you first get new waxable XC backcountry sk...

Re: Looking for Wax Selection Advice
Fisheater, thanks for explaining this so clearly! It helps a lot. I also read through Lilcliffy's tutorial and it provides great information as well. I will give ironing in Swix Polar from tip to tail a try and then apply the wax of the day to the kick zone as you describe for the various situations...
