I'm done.
All this bickering in what was, at least when I joined, an interesting and informative forum, has completely soured me on this thing. Constant trolling and name calling has just ruined it. You folks can fight it out amongst yourselves. Too bad the forum owner/moderator can't see that the trolling ha...

Re: What boots to buy??
This is what a NN boot with pin hole damage looks like when you cut away the sole: When the holes are elongated, the pins wiggle around and cause all kinds of secondary damage that you might not be able to see. Not all boots are build the same but pin hole elongation and cracking is a known point o...

Re: Leather boot resort skiing
I learned to telemark back in the dark ages, with Kastinger leather double tele boots and narrow waisted skis, like Truckers and Kazamas, and so on. Ski width, and ski tuning certainly, have a lot to do with controllability with even stiff leather boots on lift served slopes and everything but very ...

Re: What boots to buy??
You might consider trying out a full grain leather nordic boot, like the famous and revered-by-many Alico Ski March boot, or a similar model, with Norwegian welted soles. This style of Nordic boot is laterally stiffer and much more supportive than your old Fischers, but is much more durable, has a n...

Re: Fischer GTS crown, were they sold in the U.S?
Although I skied on GTS for a few seasons in the late 1980s-early 1990s, the heyday of that model, and worked in a ski shop that sold them, I never saw any with waxless patterns. Doesn't mean the ski was not produced in a waxless model, but the secondary camber (wax pocket) was virtually non-existen...

Re: Military Skis
Good photos. Those Kaintuck NG troops are training in Sweden on Swedish military equipment. Looks like old stuff, for sure. The Canadians in the first photo are on alpine width skis with some kind of logo on the bottom of the shovel, which is not the same model as those old Karhus sold on Ebay, alth...

Re: Military Skis
In the US military, and probably others, gear like skis and ski poles, boots, etc., are indeed given a listed shelf life in inventory, and are disposed of thru US government surplus sales, which is, for example, how Coleman's bought all of their skis, skins, poles, etc. Same thing with the Karhu mil...

Re: Military Skis
Good list, but some minor corrections. The designation for those skis sold as surplus by Colemans is/was "Åsnes Fjellski MT-65", as noted in official documents posted here, also the ski sidewalls are ABS, not wood. https://www.telemarktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3685 Also, in my experience with th...

Re: NNN BC - faith somewhat shaken
Carrying a spare binding and a screwdriver is always a good idea on long tours. I also had a boot sole rip off when using an NNN binding, but it was with classic racing boots on a pr of Fischer RCS skis, not in the backcountry. The sole came clean off the upper, and stayed in the binding. Had a good...
