Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation

For what it's worth I got a pair of Madshus Panorama T55 Intelligrip Transition Skis last year in 192cm. They have a wax base with the option of a kicker skin. I was very happy with them on steep narrow trails in the Laurentians north of Montreal. A bit cheaper than Asnes but still good quality.

Re: Fixing Tear In a Lightweight Waterproof Shell

I have had good results with McNett Seam Grip. On the outside of the garment line up both sides of the tear and put some masking tape to hold it in place. Then apply the Seam Grip on the inside side of the tear. Once the Seam Grip has cured remove the masking tape from the outside. If done well the ...

Re: Got a hernia at work... anyone have any experience skiing with one?

So, I realized today that I'm now 3 weeks out from my surgery. I was skiing x-c up to the day before without much trouble. The first week after the surgery was pretty sore. I walked for a half hour a few times a day. By week 2 I was mainly pain free and was back on the x-c skis and experimenting wit...

Re: Why are so many touring skis so damn stiff? (downhill)

It's a Yurpean thing. Traditionally in Yurp touring is was done mostly in the spring on firm re-frozen snow when the days are longer and avie hazards are lower. If you are skiing steep lines on icy conditions a stiff short ski turns easily and holds an edge. I still have a pair of Ramer AT skis from...

Re: Jackrabbit, an interesting short read

dhdaines, my wife and I did the TDL for 12-14 years from the early 1990's. Some of the best memories of my life on those trails. We became engaged in a blizzard on the hill above Lac Manitou in the middle of a 70km day. We skied the TDL again about 5 years ago but some of the longer days were a bit ...

Re: Jackrabbit, an interesting short read

Over the years I have skied extensively in the Laurentians north of Mtl. All the trails are great but you can tell when you are on a trail cut by Jackrabbit. It just flows so perfectly. Unfortunately many kms of those trails are disappearing due to development. The Maple Leaf trail, Johannsen est, O...

Re: Got a hernia at work... anyone have any experience skiing with one?

No experience skiing, yet. I have just had my hernia diagnosed. My DR. said no core exercises or heavy lifting but fine to continue with my leg workouts and long hikes to prep for ski season. I get some pain but just slow down and keep going. I find hiking uphills are easier than downhills. We are l...

Re: How to tell if you need new skis

Alternatively you can use the more scientific method of applying the mathematical formula

#of skis needed = x+1

where x is the number of skis you currently own.
Interestingly this also works for bikes!

Re: Request for Advice: NTN or 7tm Releasable Telemark Bindi

Don't know anything about NTN but am quite happy with 7TM. Just make sure they are the "Power" version. I had the non-power version first and was not impressed with the control. Got an upgrade kit for them and it was a great improvement.
